Should women be prevented from taking their children to the mosque?

Is it permissible to ban women from taking their children to the Masjid with them for Taraweeh prayer?.

Praise be to Allaah. Women should not be banned from bringing their children to the Masjid  in Ramadaan, The Sunnah indicates that women used to come to the Masjid , bringing their children, at the time of the Prophet (Sallallahu A’alaihi wa sallam), because of the hadeeth “I start to pray, intending to make it long, then I hear the crying of a child so I make it short lest I cause hardship to his mother.”And the Prophet (Sallallahu A’alaihi wa sallam) carried Umaamah during an obligatory prayer when he was leading the people in prayer in the mosque.

But they have to try to protect the Masjid  from najaasah (impurities) and also pay attention to the children’s rights such as sleep and so on. End quote.

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Ibraaheem (may Allaah have mercy on him).

Fataawa al-Shaykh Muhammad ibn Ibraaheem (4/214).

See also the fatwa of Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn Baaz (may Allaah have mercy on him) concerning that in the answer to question no. 11605.

Islam Q&A

Should children be stopped from coming to the mosque?

Should children be stopped from coming to the Masjid  with their mothers for Taraaweeh, because they cause too much trouble and disruption?

I asked Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn Baaz (may Allaah have mercy on him) this question, and he replied:

They should be allowed to come as it says in the ahaadeeth: “What is good for the earlier generation is good for the later generation.” And Allaah knows best.

Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn Baaz (may Allaah have mercy on him)

Women taking their children to the mosque with them for taraweeh prayer

What is the ruling on women taking their children with them to the mosque for Taraweeh prayer?.

Praise be to Allaah. There is no reason why women should not bring their children to the Masjid  with them in Ramadaan.

The Sunnah indicates that women came to the mosque with their children at the time of the Prophet (Sallallahu A’alaihi wa sallam), because of the hadeeth: “I begin to pray and I intend to make it lengthy, then I hear the crying of a child and I make my prayer short, because I know that his mother is experiencing hardship because of his crying.” And:

The Prophet (Sallallahu A’alaihi wa sallam) carried Umaamah as he offered an obligatory prayer whilst leading the people in prayer in the mosque.

But they should try to protect the Masjid  against any najaasah (impurity) and being careful lest the children fall asleep in the mosque and so on. End quote

Fataawa al-Shaykh Ibn Ibraaheem (may Allaah have mercy on him) (4/214, 215).
