Supplicate blessing [goodness] for your brother

What is the Cure for Envy? – Shaykh Saalih ibn Fawzaan al-Fawzaan (hafidhahullaah)

Shaykh Salih ibn Fawzaan al-Fawzaan:

The remedy for envy is that you supplicate blessing [goodness] for your brother.

Supplicate blessing [goodness] for your brother. Instead of wishing that the blessing is removed from him, rather supplicate for it to remain and that Allah places blessing in it. This will not harm you, rather this will benefit you with Allah. So cure envy with the likes of these matters.

Likewise, that which cures envy is that you seek sustenance and perform the means of acquiring it, but for you to sit pathetically and idle, whilst envying those who earn and seek sustenance, and being envious of what Allah gave them, then [only] you are to blame.

You are the one who fell short, you are the one who abandoned the avenues of acquiring and was lazy. You ought to blame yourself instead of envying people for
what Allah has given them from His bounty.

Therefore – O’ servants of Allah, envy leads to kufr just as it led Iblees. It [may] lead to murder, just as it led Haabeel [the son of Adam] to murder his brother Qaabeel. Indeed Allah conveys this story to us so that we may take a lesson from it, and also take heed and be cautious of envy.

Envy leads [a person] towards objecting to what Allah has decreed and predestined, [which necessitates] that Allah is not Hakeem [all-Wise] and not Khabeer [fully informed] and not Aleem [All-Knowing], rather He gives to those undeserving or He punishes those undeserving of punishment.

This is kufr in the Qadr [pre-decree], therefore envy is a disastrous evil disease, so seek refuge in Allah from envy.

Envy – as it has been reported in a hadeeth narrated by Ahmad and at-Tirmidhi:

“Envy consumes good deeds similar to how fire consumes firewood”

So be cautious O’ servants of Allah!! Be cautious of your good deeds and righteous actions being burnt due to envy.

Seek refuge in Allah from envy and ask Allah of His bounty, love for your brothers good, love for your brothers good, supplicate for blessings to be bestowed upon them, Allah is Ever-Generous and All-Knowing.

In His Hand is great bounty which He gives to whom He wills.

So do not show objection towards Allah and thus render your actions null and void without realising, be cautious of envy.
